but usually for good reasons
or what seems to be a good reason to her

the Jean Grey that we know was the host, for a long time, of a cosmic entity known as the Phoenix Force
she wasn't the only one but I believe it liked her best
it took control of her and dominated her mind
she tried to master it, but it was incredibly powerful and eventually it was able to take over and destroyed many lives. an entire star system. billions of people.

she had to die in order to deny the Phoenix a place on Earth

I wish I could tell you that it was an easy death, but it wasn't, nor was it the only one
it tortured her, and those she loved, for a long time, and it came back to claim her children

but eventually she found peace with it and herself

Jean, no matter what my mother tells you, your fate is not hers
she was likely trying to scare or confuse you

I believe we are all in control of what we can become
God sets us on a path, but it is up to us to walk that path

it's okay and understandable to be scared
